About Meat Industry Trust Mit Bursary
The Meat Industry Trust (MIT), established in 1996 from the winding-up of the old Meat Board, funds postgraduate bursaries for Master's and Doctoral research that benefits South Africa's red meat industry - covering cattle, sheep and goats specifically, across topics from genetics and animal health to food safety, meat science and production efficiency. The bursary is worth R60,000 a year, up to R120,000 over two years for a Master's or R180,000 over three years for a Doctorate. Applicants must be South African citizens, unemployed, and registered full-time students.
Funding Details
R60,000 per annum, paid in two instalments (after proof of registration, then after a supervisor's progress report). Total value is R120,000 over two consecutive years for a Master's degree, or R180,000 over three consecutive years for a Doctorate. Continuation depends on demonstrated academic progress.

Your intended research must relate to cattle, sheep or goats and to one or more of: consumer economics/marketing, environment/climate, genetics/breeding, animal health/welfare, food safety, meat science, livestock nutrition, physiology, production systems, rangeland/pasture, transitional agriculture, waste management, or the socio-economic aspects of the red meat industry.
