About Potato Industry Development Trust Bursaries
The Potato Industry Development Trust (PIDT) Bursaries fund South African students studying agriculture-related qualifications - including agricultural economics, agronomy, plant production and soil science - at undergraduate (from 2nd year) or postgraduate level at an accredited South African tertiary institution. The programme is administered on the Trust's behalf through Potatoes South Africa (PSA).
The Trust was established in 2004 to secure a pipeline of skilled people for South Africa's potato industry, and only a small number of bursaries are awarded each year (four for the 2027 academic year). Recipients attend an annual induction programme in April that includes visits to a fresh produce market, a potato farm, a processing plant and research facilities, and are required to work for a potato industry-related company, organisation or institution for a period equivalent to the length of their bursary after completing their studies.
