About Saice Spebs Bursary
The SAICE Patrons' Engineering Bursary Scheme (SPEBS) is administered by the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) and has provided financial assistance to Civil Engineering students since 1992. The name originates from the South African Institute of Civil Engineering Technicians and Technologists (SAICET), whose bursary scheme this was before SAICET merged into SAICE; the SPEBS name was retained as SAICE's flagship student bursary programme.
SPEBS is funded through SAICE's corporate patrons as part of the institution's broader outreach programme to grow the pipeline of qualified civil engineering professionals in South Africa. Rather than a single annual award, funding is granted on a per-semester basis according to a student's examination results and continued financial need.
Because SPEBS targets students who have already shown academic ability at tertiary level rather than school-leavers, applicants must have already completed at least their first level of study before applying.
