About Saimi Bursary
The SAIMI Bursary, formally known as the Sindiswa Carol 'Tu' Nhlumayo Merit Bursary, is offered by the South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI), a national maritime skills development institute established in 2014 through a partnership between the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), Nelson Mandela University, and a network of universities, SETAs and maritime industry bodies. The bursary is named in honour of the late Sindiswa Nhlumayo, former Executive Head of the Centre for Maritime Excellence at SAMSA, and is aimed specifically at supporting Black South African women pursuing maritime-related qualifications.
Funding Details
The bursary covers tuition fees and textbooks in full, along with subsidised accommodation and meal allowances up to a set limit, funded through the National Skills Fund (NSF).
