Sasol Bursary

Sasol funds engineering and science degrees for talented South African students. The energy and chemicals company created this bursary to build a steady pipeline of skilled graduates for its own operations.

Students on the programme study full-time at a Sasol-approved public university. In exchange, Sasol covers their tuition and opens a route into its Graduate Development Programme once they qualify, giving many bursars a job offer before they even graduate.

Sasol treats the bursary as a long-term investment rather than a one-off grant. As a result, the company follows each student's progress closely and expects strong academic performance throughout the degree, not just in the year of application.

Full tuition fees form the core of the award, but Sasol's support goes further than that. Bursars typically also receive money for accommodation, textbooks, and other study costs, so recipients rarely need to pay out of pocket for their studies.

On top of the financial side, Sasol offers structured support such as mentorship and vacation work opportunities. Beyond that, high-performing bursars stand a strong chance of moving straight into Sasol's Graduate Development Programme after they finish their degree.

Sasol only funds students at its approved list of public universities in South Africa. Notably, the company does not fund studies through the University of South Africa (UNISA), since the bursary assumes full-time, contact-based study.

Before you apply, check that your chosen university and course appear on Sasol's approved list. Applying with an unlisted institution wastes your chance in a competitive process.
