Beefmaster Group is one of South Africa's largest privately-owned, family-run beef production companies, based in Kimberley in the Northern Cape with a major feedlot near Christiana in North West. Founded in the 1960s as a small feedlot with just eleven cattle, the company now manages the full beef value chain, from working directly with farmers to rearing cattle and delivering meat products to customers in South Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East.
Beefmaster works closely with established and emerging cattle farmers, offering training, mentorship, and offtake agreements to help them improve the quality and sustainability of their herds - a model that shapes how the company thinks about its bursary too.
Rather than funding a broad range of fields, Beefmaster specifically supports final-year agriculture students, aiming to strengthen the same farming and animal production expertise its own supply chain depends on.
