Cape Gate (Pty) Ltd is a steel wire and wire-products manufacturer based in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, and one of the larger operations within the Cape Gate group, producing fencing, mesh and related steel goods for the construction, agricultural and security industries. The company runs two named bursary schemes: the Isaac Joffe Fellowship, aimed at undergraduate engineering students in electrical, electronic, mechatronic and metallurgical disciplines, and the Erwin Robert Balde Bursary, which funds a BCom (CA stream) degree through to Honours level. Both are structured around Cape Gate's own technical and financial skills needs rather than as open-ended community giving, which is reflected in how the funding is tied to disciplines the company actually hires into.

Recipients who accept either bursary are required to work for Cape Gate after graduating for a period equal to the number of years they were funded, a standard condition attached to both schemes. This work-back arrangement means the bursaries function as a direct talent pipeline into the company, giving graduates a guaranteed route into industry experience while giving Cape Gate a steady supply of engineers and chartered accountants who already understand its operations. The company has grown over decades from a small wire-netting manufacturer into one of the country's larger integrated steel and wire producers, and its two named bursary schemes reflect a long-running, deliberately structured programme rather than an ad hoc award made once a year.
