The Department of Tourism is a national government department of the Republic of South Africa, mandated under the Tourism Act 3 of 2014 to promote responsible tourism, market South Africa as a destination, and support growth and transformation within the tourism sector. It is a separate department from the Department of Transport, which is responsible for the country's transport infrastructure and regulation.
As part of its skills development mandate, the Department runs an External Bursary Scheme for South African students studying tourism-related and other priority fields at accredited public tertiary institutions, intended to build a pipeline of graduates for the tourism sector and the wider public service.
