Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG)

Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG) is a United States-based non-profit public charity, established in 1981, that funds women from developing countries who are working to improve the lives of women and children in their own communities. South Africa is one of the countries where MMEG runs an annual grant cycle.

The organisation funds women specifically, rather than students in general, because it was founded on the belief that investing in women's education has an outsized, multiplying effect on families and communities. It deliberately keeps the grant open to any field of study, from certificate level through to postdoctoral research, so it can back whichever qualification best serves an applicant's community-focused goals.

MMEG grants carry no employment work-back obligation and no requirement to remain in South Africa - the organisation trusts recipients to apply what they learn wherever their work takes them.
