N3 Toll Concession (N3TC)

N3 Toll Concession is a privately owned, single-purpose company that has held a 30-year concession since November 1999, in partnership with the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL), to design, finance, build, operate and maintain the 415km N3 Toll Route between the Cedara Interchange in KwaZulu-Natal and the Heidelberg South Interchange in Gauteng. The route is one of South Africa's most important logistics corridors, carrying an estimated 80 million tonnes of freight a year between the Durban port and Gauteng's industrial hubs, alongside significant passenger and tourism traffic.

N3TC runs its Touching Lives Community Bursary Programme as the main vehicle for its community investment along the route, funding third- and fourth-year and Honours students who live in specific municipalities in Mpumalanga, the Free State, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal that the toll road passes through. As a company operating public infrastructure under a public-private partnership, N3TC frames the programme as part of its responsibility to the communities living along the corridor it manages, and the bursary is awarded on a combined merit-and-need basis rather than to top achievers alone. It covers tuition fees and mandatory textbooks, with other costs such as accommodation covered at the company's discretion.
