The Poliomyelitis Research Foundation (PRF) is South Africa's major funder of virology research, supporting scientific work at institutions including the National Institute for Communicable Diseases. Originally established during the polio epidemics of the mid-20th century, the Foundation has since broadened its focus to fund virology research more widely. PRF is based in Sandringham, Johannesburg, and offers bursaries for students pursuing medical science qualifications.
