Rhodes Trust

The Rhodes Trust was established in 1902 under the will of Cecil John Rhodes and administers the Rhodes Scholarship, the world's oldest international postgraduate scholarship programme, based at the University of Oxford since 1903. The Trust awards scholarships to outstanding graduates from constituencies around the world to pursue fully-funded Master's or Doctoral study at Oxford, selecting on academic excellence alongside character, leadership, and commitment to service.

South Africa forms part of the Trust's Southern Africa constituency, alongside Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, and eSwatini, with around ten Rhodes Scholarships awarded to this constituency each year.

The Trust has acknowledged the complicated legacy of its founder's colonial-era wealth, and has worked in recent years to broaden access to the scholarship and expand its constituencies and equity, diversity, and inclusion work.
