Royal Bafokeng Platinum

Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat) was a South African platinum group metals producer operating mines near Rustenburg in the North West province, historically linked to Royal Bafokeng Holdings (RBH), the investment company of the Royal Bafokeng Nation.

In 2023, Impala Platinum Holdings (Implats) completed a takeover of RBPlat, acquiring more than 98% of its shares. RBPlat was formally delisted from the JSE in September 2023 and its operations now continue under Implats as "Impala Bafokeng." RBPlat no longer exists as an independently listed or independently managed company.

While it operated independently, RBPlat funded a bursary programme aimed at students from mining-related disciplines - engineering, geology, metallurgy, mining engineering and mine survey - with preference given to candidates connected to the Royal Bafokeng Nation and greater Rustenburg communities. Since the 2023 acquisition, bursary administration for the area has moved to Implats' own, broader bursary programmes.
