The South African Actuaries Development Programme (SAADP) is a dedicated bursary and mentorship programme, housed at the University of the Witwatersrand, built specifically to grow the pipeline of Black South African actuaries.
SAADP exists because actuarial science has one of the narrowest, most demanding qualification pathways of any profession in South Africa, and historically one of the least representative - the programme funds students at only three universities (Wits, UCT, and UP) specifically so it can also provide the intensive academic and mentorship support the qualification requires, not just money.
The bursary is fully renewable each year based on academic performance, and does not carry a fixed post-study employment contract, though it is explicitly designed to feed graduates into the actuarial profession.
