Vodacom

Vodacom is one of South Africa's largest telecommunications companies, providing mobile network, internet, and digital services to millions of customers. Running that kind of infrastructure requires a constant supply of engineers, computer scientists, and technology specialists, which is exactly the pipeline Vodacom's bursary programme is built to support.

By funding STEM students early in their studies, Vodacom secures graduates who already understand the company's technology and ways of working, rather than competing for talent only once students finish their degrees. The programme also reflects a broader push across South Africa's tech sector to grow local digital and engineering skills.

Unlike some corporate bursaries, Vodacom does not lock recipients into a fixed work-back contract. Instead, graduates become strong candidates for the company's Graduate Development Programme, with employment offered depending on which roles are available at the time. Vodacom prepares bursars for this transition through vacation work, practical training, and dedicated work-readiness sessions in their final year of study.

This structure gives Vodacom bursars a genuine head start toward a job at the company, without an outright legal obligation to accept one. Even so, most of the support you receive, from mentorship to workplace exposure, is designed with a future at Vodacom in mind.
