The Canon Collins Trust (formally the Canon Collins Educational and Legal Assistance Trust) was established in 1981, growing out of Canon John Collins' anti-apartheid work through Christian Action and the Defence and Aid Fund. Since 1981 the Trust has awarded over 3,000 postgraduate scholarships to southern African students, building a community of scientists, human rights lawyers, civil servants, educationalists, and other professionals who use research and study for social impact.
Canon Collins administers a number of distinct scholarship funds for postgraduate study in South Africa, each with its own donor partnership, funding level, and eligible field of study, including the Tom Queba and Pegasys Scholarships for Social Change and the RMTF Scholarships for postgraduate study. Scholars also gain access to leadership development, academic networking, and the Trust's wider events and alumni programme.
