Impala Platinum

Impala Platinum Holdings, known as Implats, is one of the world's largest producers of platinum group metals, mining and processing platinum, palladium, rhodium, nickel, and copper. Established in 1957 and listed on both the JSE and London Stock Exchange, the company employs roughly 63,000 people across operations on three of the world's most significant platinum deposits: the Bushveld Complex in South Africa, the Canadian Shield, and the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe.

Implats' flagship Rustenburg operation alone employs around 51,500 people and produces close to half the group's total output, giving a sense of the scale of technical and engineering skill the company needs just to keep one site running. Implats funds bursaries in engineering, geology, metallurgy, and related mining disciplines to secure that pipeline, and expects successful bursars to work for the company after graduation for a period matching the years they were funded.
